5 Things to Know About Toners
/Women have many issues with their skin, but one of the biggest skincare problems is uneven skin tone. An uneven skin tone can come from acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation, sun damage, and even hormones! There are several essential oils, carrier oils, face washes and exfoliants that will aid in evening your complexion. Guess what? Adding a toner to your skincare regimen will also help!
First things first, a toner is a water like astringent that’s used to clean, remove oil, and even the condition of the skin. If you’ve never used a toner before, it usually feels like you’ve just rubbed cool water all over your face after applying it. People usually apply toners using cotton balls or cotton pads after cleaning or washing their face for an extra deep clean.
So now that you know what a toner is, we’ll give you 5 things to know about using toners.
1. When using your toner, don’t let the dirt build up on the cotton pad.
Continuously change the cotton pad (or ball) as you apply the toner until there is no dirt or residue left to be removed. No seriously. DO NOT keep smudging the dirt all over your face or else it will defeat the purpose of using the toner. I usually start with one cotton pad, which gets most of the dirt off. Then I follow up with another, and the brown specks that show up on the white pad are usually proof that I didn’t do as great of a cleansing job as I thought. Then finally, follow up with a third cotton pad which usually comes up clean.
2. Since Flora’s Angels is an all natural brand, you know we’re for the all natural products.
A great natural toner which I think is gentle enough for all skin types is Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera. You can find it at your local drug store, Target, Walmart, or Amazon. The aloe vera in the toner is a great healing ingredient to help lighten dark marks and blemishes.
3. Toners are said to shrink pores.
If you’ve got a problem with your pores appearing large and open all the time, a great way to combat this problem is by adding a toner to your routine. If you find the toner that’s just right for you, it will unclog your pores and help them settle down, making your faces look smoother and more flawless.
4. Toners can help get your acne under control.
By removing the excess dirt that is usually left behind after we wash our faces, the toner kills the bacteria and germs that are persistent and slow to die, allowing our skin to be its best self and preventing new break outs from popping through.
5. Consistency is key.
As with any product, you won’t see the results of your toner if you don’t develop a healthy skincare routine. I recommend using your toner in the morning and at night, and always after removing makeup. It’s not an overnight process, but soon you’ll begin to notice your the progress you skin is making toward a smooth and radiant future.
Toners can be life changing, if used consistently. The clean, fresh feeling that you have after you apply is amazing, but the benefits of using it are even better. Are you using a toner? If so, what brand? We’d love to hear from you!
