5 Simple Steps for Your Fall Skincare Routine

Labor Day is behind us, so Fall is just around the corner. It is time to start thinking about updating our skincare game and preparing our skin for the colder months.

The truth is, though, Fall is that sweet spot when your skin has a lot of reasons to be happy. It is not too hot, and it is not too cold. You still need sunscreen and a good moisturizer, but everything else depends on your skin’s individual needs.

The best thing you can do is to continue regularly nourishing your skin, follow the changes, and start preparing it for the cold, harsh months. And you only need a few simple steps to cover all that…

#1 TRY A GENTLER FACE WASH

During the Summer, even people with normal skin often experience some oiliness. Most of us need a quality, deep-cleansing face wash, to help us maintain a clear complexion and reduce clogged pores.

With the summer heat behind us, however, there’s a good chance a strong cleanser would do more harm than good. Especially since during the winter, your skin is going to need its protective lipid barrier in as good a state as possible.

You still need to wash your face regularly, but you can switch to a gentle, creamy cleanser. You don’t need anything too foaming – just strong enough to lift all the impurities, but leave the good lipids in your skin.

If you wear a lot of makeup and need to cleanse your skin twice in the evening, try out the oil cleansing method. Especially as the days are getting colder, your skin will be much happier if you are using a nourishing oil as a first cleanser instead of a harsh makeup remover.

#2 GENTLE SUGAR SCRUBS ARE BEST!

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to scrubs, but if you haven’t tried sugar scrubs yet, it is about time to give them a chance. They can help you remove all the dead, dull skin cells from your skin’s surface and encourage your skin to produce new, healthy ones.

Sugar scrubs are effective and can be pretty gentle. White sugar is more suitable for your body since the grains are larger and sharper. Brown sugar, on the other hand, can be used even for your face, as long as your skin is not too sensitive.

When choosing a scrub, make sure to find a product that is not full of chemicals. What it should contain are natural oils, to soothe and nourish the skin during the exfoliation.

If you’re looking for a nourishing body scrub, Flora’s Angels has several options for you.

#3 START USING A HYDRATING TONER INSTEAD OF A CLARIFYING ONE

If you are using a face toner, you know the difference it can make for your skin. However, your astringent toner that was making your skin clear and matte during the summer may be too drying now.

There are plenty of hydrating toners on the market that can help you add some extra moisture to your skin, make it plump and glowing, and prep it for your moisturizer. Look for the ingredients such as aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, rose water, lecithin, green tea, etc.

#4 REINTRODUCE A THICKER MOISTURIZER

This advice won’t work for everyone, as it depends on your skin’s individual needs. A lot of Angels can wear a lightweight moisturizer or even just a serum even during the winter.

Most of us, however, need that extra protective, moisturizing layer to keep our skin soft, supple, and healthy, especially for our bodies. Dry skin in the Fall & Winter is not ok, Angels!  Moisturizers that contain natural oils and butter, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and/or glycerin are suitable for this time of year.

Body Butters are a perfect option to keep your skin moisturized. Flora’s Angels’ butter will be available again this month so make sure you grab your favorite scents!

#5 CARRY A LIP BALM AND HAND CREAM WHEREVER YOU GO

This is a no brainer, yet many Angels (me included) always forget about it. We’ll remember when harsher winds start to blow and we suddenly end up with painful cracks and dry, rough skin. Not okay!

Make it a habit to always have a lip balm and a hand cream with you wherever you go. They are small, don’t weigh much or take a lot of space, but they can be super nourishing and protective. It is so much easier to prevent cracked lips and hands than to try to heal and recover the skin that is already damaged and rough.

Prep your lips for the Fall and Winter with Flora’s Angels’ Lip Scrubs. Exfoliate the dead skin away and reveal soft smooth, kissable lips!
